Lessons I learned from the Classism Seminar by SAME NETWORK in Lübeck, Germany.

As a young sustainability enthusiast, I get the opportunity to attend a number of trainings, seminars, hackathon and a plethora of other events aiming to bring changes to our modern societies. I am grateful for all the opportunities and although I benefit directly from them in my day-to-day activities as an aspiring young leader, entrepreneur and diplomat, I see the need to document and share the lessons I learn to even a wider audience. I believe this will reach to people earlier than the impact I create from those lessons and eventually build a community of young people bringing positive impacts to their societies.

I intend to start with blogposts that will primarily target young people in my social networks’ circles and hopefully progress to producing videos of similar nature and goal of making positive impact to our societies.

As the first program that sparked this interest, the Classism Seminar was organized by Solidarity Action Day Movement in Europe, shortly SAME Network. There are many great things I can say about the organization itself but to not make this post any longer I will leave their website and contact information at the end of the post that you can check by yourself if you are interested.

Important Take-aways from the seminar:

  1. Most people are way privileged than they think. We just need to take a step back and count the blessings we have and how they put us ahead of others before we put any effort.

  2. It is a moral responsibility of the privileged ones to level the playground and bring about the equality our societies desperately need and not the less-privileged ones.

  3. Classes have ripple effect in our societies. For someone to move from one class to the next they usually use more energy then they should hence a less efficient society in terms of productivity.

  4. It is in everyone’s best interest to make the classes fundamentally less meaningful even in the capitalistic world when looking at a bigger picture. Meaning being against radical societal classes does not make you any less of a capitalist.

  5. Establishing constant communication across the societal classes is necessary to fight all kinds of classism from the institutional to individual.

These are just a few of the many lessons I learned from the seminar and most of them will stick with me forever as we learned by actions and illustrations. I could not share everything to avoid writing any longer. But for those interested to receive full documents having summary of most of the activities of the seminar, you can indicate so in the contact form here (also found on the About & Contact section of the website). And I will share them with you once I receive the package and the permission to do so from the organizors.

I value your input and opinions on this and welcome all the comments down below. Let’s keep the discussion going!!!

Thank you for staying with me till the end!!!
